Getting into the beauty industry

Hey everyone!

Okay so the beauty market at the moment is off the rails. People are wanting for expensive, better makeup and skin care which you're so right in doing! You really do get what you pay for!

I want to become a makeup artist and also a beauty therapist so in order for me to do that I need the qualifications and experience to help me along the way.

I'm going to college to study beauty therapy and I also work for Benefit Cosmetics. These things are perfect for me as they are going to help me on my journey to my dream job.

If you feel like you can't get a job in cosmetics because maybe you're young, people just won't hire you or you lack qualifications/experience well that's not true! I got the job at benefit at 17 years old with no previous experience (at all!) and no beauty qualifications! It's all about the way you carry yourselves! Be happy and approachable, maybe a little cheeky even. It's your personality that wins not what's written on a piece of paper so keep your head up high!

Just remember, if you want something that bad, fight for it and you'll get it! There were 62 people in my audition and I got the job so that says it all!

Good luck and if you have any questions please ask!!!

Happy beautifying

Review: Benefit brow zings

Hey Everyone!

Today I'm going to review the Benefit's BROWzings eyebrow kit.
This is kit retails for £23.50 but will last you  lifetime.

Okay, so this is what the external packaging looks like which I love benefit's packaging anyway. Super adorable!

And here we have the actual product itself. The kit comes with a wax to shape brows and a powder to set the brows. These kits come in 3 shades: Light, Medium and Dark. The one above is the Dark shade but it all depends on how you apply it. If you use loads of product they will look too dark and unnatural but if you use the product sparingly you will achieve a much more natural-looking brow.

The kit also includes a hard angle brush for the wax, a blending brush for the powder and a pair of discreet tweezers which are AMAZING I love them! Also, not forgetting the 'Tip's and Tricks' that come with all benefit products.

Love this kit! let me know what you think.

Happy Beautifying!

Getting a job at benefit!

Hey everyone!

Okay so today I'm going to talk about getting a job at benefit cosmetics. I don't know just yet whether I've got the job but I will still tell you all about the audition process.
This is just my experience so it may not be the same as everyone's.
P.S. I know this is long but It will help I promise.

APPLYING: If you're interested go onto this website: http://www.benefitcosmetics.co.uk/careers and it will tell you what is expected of a potential employee. It will also tell you the dates of recruitment days in your area. Now if you cant see one that's really close but there's one still in the same county as you  (county not country lol) then get on a train or whatever and go to the recruitment day but make sure you tell them you're looking for a job in your area and not that one.

WHAT DO I WEAR?: Always wear all black! This is what they expect. sensible shoes, no heels, nice hair and nice makeup of course. I was actually told to go and apply more makeup even though I thought I had a lot on anyway but that's what they want so do it. For character maybe add in a chunky necklace and a watch. It's quite important to wear a watch for later on. Don't worry too much but it would help you if you did.

BE PREPARED: Make sure you research the company! they will ask you what you know and they will send you away if you don't know enough.
Research these things:
  • Jean and Jane Ford
  • How benefit became benefit
  • Top selling products
  • product awards
  • and the products themselves (obviously)

TURNING UP: So you meet in the place where the recruitment day is being held and you have an initial interview now this can take up to two hours depending on how many people show up. This isn't a two hour personal interview but everyone will be being interviewed in that time but be prepared to be sent away having to come back a few hours later. This is so you're not sat around watching all the others be interviewed and waiting but you can go grab a coffee or some lunch or maybe shop around for a little while.(I had 62 people at mine) During this interview you'll be asked questions like...
  • why do you want to work for benefit over any other cosmetics brand?
  • what do you know about benefit?
  • what are benefit's top sellers?
  • what can you bring to benefit?
  • if your friends could describe you in 3 words what would they be?
okay, so they're the typical questions asked so just make sure you think of an answer to them before you go so that you're prepared.

AUDITION: So if you pass the first stage you'll then be take to some kind of staff room or something and shown a demonstration of how to apply certain products.
The products we used are:
  • It's Potent! eye cream
  • The PoreFessional Primer
  • The Big Easy BB Cream
  • Benetint
  • Sun beam/high beam
You will then practice on your partner taking turns and you will also practise traffic stopping.

TRAFFIC STOPPING: this is when you have to go out into the store and approach the public and bring them back to the counter. This is the most important part of the job and if it makes you uncomfortable then don't apply because you'll have to do it on the audition and every day at work.

As the day goes on people will be told they're not right for the job and then there will be a few people left, these will be the top picks and will be spoken to about availability etc and then it's up to fate then!

Good luck if you're going for an audition!

TOP TIP: Be very enthusiastic and fun and get yourself noticed. Also, volunteer to do tasks first.

Happy Beautifying!

REVIEW: bourjois chocolate bronzer

Hey guys,

So the chocolate bronzer by bourjois has recieved quite mixed reviews but I for one love it! It retails for £7.99.

This is what it looks like:
They do have different shades, mine is in 52. This product is amazing! It can come off really lightly but can be built up to a stronger colour. This is very pigmented and also smells like chocolate... Durrrr. Haha anyway, I'm not such of a cocoa scent fan but I love the smell of this, it's so light and subtle. I love it! Good price, good amount and good product!

REVIEW: Benefit's big beautiful eyes palette

Hey guys,

So as you may or may not know I am the worlds biggest benefit fan and this palette is one of my all time favourite products!

Okay so this is what it look like. It retails for £25.50 and can be bought online at benefitcosmetics.co.uk or from your local boots, debenhams or John lewis stores. (And possibly any other, these places are just were I can purchase the products locally)

This kit is perfect for on the go and travelling as it is quite small and will fit in any makeup bag. It can also be kept at home for every day use. Mine comes absolutely everywhere with me and I wear it on a daily basis. It's a very natural pretty look but can be worn up or down. You can wear it quite faintly for a natural look or you can add more of the liner colour to spice the look up. Either way it's gorgeous!

The set contains a boi-ing concealer in '02', a pink base colour, a shimmery medium brown contour colour and a dark brown liner shadow. It also includes a concealer brush and a contour/ liner brush.
Here's a colour swatch:
As you can see the colours are very natural and so so pretty.

The kit also included 'tips and tricks' on how to apply these colours for a beautiful look. Also, not forgetting the perfect sized mirror to make it easier for you carry this around with you anywhere you go!

So if you've been contemplating whether to buy this or not you DEFINITELY should. It's 100% worth the money, I've had mine for around six months using it almost everyday and I've only just hit pan so you should try it :)

Also, if there is anything you would like me to try or review please please tell me and leave a comment, I would love to know what you guys think!

Happy beautifying!

REVIEW: benefit, how to look the best at everything kit

Hey everyone,

So I bought the benefit kit ( yes I love starter kits lol)
 The kits cost £25.50 each

This is how the kits look. I ADORE the packaging of this kit so so so so so so much. It's beautiful and like a book which I love. It comes in three shades, light, medium and dark. I would love to see more varieties though because although I'm in the 'light' catagory the foundation was a little too light for my skin tone.

Okay, so on the inside you get a primer, foundation, two concealers and a face powder with a brush to go with it. I think these are decent sized products as it's not just once you can use them it's for about a fortnight or so if used every day.

The porefessional primer: wonderful product with a hint of colour, hides pours and keeps makeup on all day, very good product.

Hello flawless oxygen wow foundation: I absolutely LOVE this foundation! It's perfect, it's a brightening foundation which is oil-free and has an SPF of 25 which is great. I will 100% will buy the full size, I'm actually going to buy all these products in full size.

Boi-ing concealer: this industrial concealer hides everything!! All blemishes are gone in an instant! Personally I wouldn't use this under the eyes because it is so thick, id rather use a liquid concealer for under the eyes as opposed to a Creme. Love this product!

Hello flawless powder: absolutely amazing!! Love this product so so so much, has such a high coverage yet a lightweight feel. SPF 15 which is a plus! Just generally amazing. Although I'm not a fan of the brush it comes with. But he full size comes with the brush and a sponge or you could just use a powder brush.

The 'book' also comes with a mirror inside and tips and tricks on how to use the products for maximum effect.
If you only use minimal makeup you could just carry this book and some mascara and hey presto!

Hope you enjoyed, if you've bought this then let me know what you think!

Look forward to hearing from you

REVIEW: bareminerals starter kit

Hey everyone,

So I bought the customisable Bareminerals starter kit and so I thought I would review it for you :) the kit was £50

Okay so this is the overall kit and this is what you get. So I will go over each and every item but first of all I'd like to put out there that the reason the kit is customisable is that you get to choose your foundation whether that be mineral or compact, you get to choose which one you'd prefer :)

This is the bareminerals face primer. It's a sample size. I don't like it and I don't dislike it, I can't really work it out. I feel like you need to use quite alot of it to actually know it's there. I wouldn't repurchase this I don't think.

I decided on the compact foundation because I liked the packaging the most on the compact and so I got it :) the actual product itself is amazing and I love it a lot, for someone who needs really high coverage I wouldn't say this was for you because even though the coverage is good it doesn't cover up all my blemishes so it just depends what you're looking for. I love wearing this foundation when I'm having a natural day because it just looks and feels amazing on my skin. I just really regret buying the compact because I waste a lot whereas if you have any left and have the pot version then you can just put it back in. Overall though  I would recommend it :) especially seeing as this Is a full size product:)

Warmth is a facial colourant and it just makes your skin look so good. I love this product! I will definitely repurchase this. I love the colour of it and I just love everything about it!

Mineral veil is a setting power which goes over the foundation and warmth. Acting as a primer on top of your makeup. A very good product. Lightweight, translucent and only a small amount needed. I love this product.

And last but not least you get three brushes included in the kit. You get the full flawless brush, the flawless brush and the max coverage concealer brush.

Ffb- very full brush I love it! You only need a small amount of product with this brush as it applys so smoothly :) this is to be used with the foundation and the mineral veil.

Fb- this brush is for the warmth and is a very good brush. I like It a lot, it's just like the Ffb but isn't as full and doesn't apply too much product which is a good thing when applying warmth because it's very easy to look like you've rolled In mud, which means it'll last a long time as you don't need a lot.

Mcc- very good concealer brush. The foundation can also work as a concealer when used with this brush. Lovely product and will use always. Worth the buy individually.

The kit also included a 'how-to' leaflet and a 'how-to' DVD which I thought was brilliant.

Overall, I think that if you are interested in bareminerals I definitely think you should give this kit a try. And it's at such a good price! If you bought these products individually then it would cost you double.

Hope you enjoyed and comment if there's anything else you want me to try or review

Lots of love,
